Picking up the Pieces from the Holidays

Took a walk today. It was good to get out again. I'll be ready to run again soon. I got to use the Garmin watch today, which measured the distance, speed and everything. It was great.

Oh, it's SO on.

started at the beginning of the neighborhood, figuring that if i didn't make it to 3.1, it would be because I could have done more in the beginning. (turns out I was right on)

Ran down to tuckernuck, up to st. martins, around the HS parking lot, back down the hill and past my place ...actually way past. I ran the back way to Ukrops expecting to reward myself with sushi, but nothing really looked appealing, so i walked home.

3.1 baby. I can feel it in my knees and will give myself plenty of time to recover before trying again, but man... I met my goal WAY ahead of when i expected. I feel great.

a different stretch of richmond

Today, I started by walking down the hill, running to Pemberton and back past the place to Tuckernuck and up the hill to St. Maartens. Walking past the shopping center, then running along Broad back home.

2.6 baby.

I made today a mostly uphill climb, going to Pemberton and then up the hill to Mayland. It was a big loop, and I proudly pressed on.

Felt great to walk home.

2 miles, baby!

walking to quarter mill, then running the loop back up the hill to mayland/parham and back. Turns out if i run back to the parking lot it's a full 2.0. So that's what I did!

Bam! Man this feels good.

sprints (kind of)

just to keep the discipline, I went out to run. Since I was hurting a bit and didn't have the stamina for a long run, I decided to do short bursts of faster running. Don't think i went very far, but I used up a lot of energy, and got out of the house, which was the bigger accomplishment.

running: don't know.

Making it count.

Whew.

I am aching. I started running from my place and made it about .7 miles before I had to walk. Tonight's path was a bit more uphill than yesterday's and I felt it.

I walked a while, then got back running, walked a bti (for safety- it ain't safe running on a tiny path with cars zooming by) and then ran again for the home stretch.

After the run, I got in the car and checked it on the odometer. 1.1 miles running total, and a 2.2 roundtrip.

It begins.

It begins again today. I am so tired of the same old thing, and know that I got 4 times more done when I felt the discipline of regular exercise. I ran from my car to a restaurant for lunch today, and it felt so good. I wanted that feeling back.

So tonight (the 30th of November), it was still 79 degrees. I don't get it, unless it was a sign from God. "here's your chance, B."

So I took it. And ran. Just to see what I could do. Immediately, my old breathing pattern came up. two out. two in. two out. two in. I picked up the pace to a point that was even faster than when I used to run regularly. It felt comfortable. It felt good. No. It felt great.

And on it went as running does. One foot in front of the other. Out two. In two. Out two. Of course, it was heavier than normal, since I haven't done this in a while. But man, I felt so great out there. "Just keep going- see what you can do!" i told myself.

Here I am, heavier than I have been in two years. Back in '02, I was heavier than this, and waited 'till I lost 40 lbs to start running. I've never been this big running, and I feel fine.

no. I feel great.
