Congratulations to Michael Korte, one of Florida's newest lawyers!! We just got word this week that he passed the bar this week. His future begins in a few weeks, and we're all very excited. Mike, I'm really proud of you. Congratulations!!!
Mike was down here in town a few weekends ago. We had a blast. First, we went to see Sin City- probably the sickest, darkest, most messed-up movie I've ever seen. Don't ever watch it. And if you decide to go ahead and watch it anyhow, just remember that I warned you. I wonder if I could have stomached this one back in the day when I was desensitized to movie violence. Either way, this struck a chord with me. I was ready to bolt about 3 minutes into the flick.
After the movie, we went South to see Mike and Lauren and work on the attic with Jeff and Olivia too- with six of us working together on different projects, we got the attic almost completely drywall-ready. It was close to midnight when we finally looked around for some food, and Katy & Tiago arrived and met us at dinner. I think we finally got back to my place and hit the sack around 2am.
Awake at 6:45am, I rustled up the gang to get us up and ready for the Monument Avenue 10k downtown. We had an excellent time at the race...the weather was perfect along Monument, and the scenery was amazing- so many runners out there!!
After the race, we got some lunch with Paul, Chris, and the gang from Charlotte, then came back to my place to relax a bit. After a few hours, we headed South, this time to Eric and Kelly's place for a cookout. What a great time!! Kelly made some EXCELLENT pina coladas and we hung out and played some games that got everyone involved. It was a great time.
Mike left the next morning, and I'm proud to announce that as I type this, more than a week later, I've managed to keep the place looking nice and tidy. I know, this shouldn't be a huge accomplishment, but hey- baby steps, right?
In the meantime, I've been doing side-jobs here and there. Most for barter (typically food - let's just say I've been eating well), and occasionally some for cash. I polished up my resume, applied for a few jobs, and am ready to get back into the frey again with a full-time gig.
I've also picked up my sticks and hit the driving range a bit this past week. I'm scheduled to do some more of that tomorrow too. I can drive a ball consistently straight, usually past 200 yards. Although- I'm noticing that when I start getting tired, I slice like crazy. I'm working on it. ;-)
I'm thinking more and more that I should just stop with the LEGO project as it currently is, and frame what I have. I have the perfect place for it in my living room as-is, and this way, I can tuck the project behind me as a portfolio item and move on. The more I look at it, the more I want to just stop for now, frame it...no one would ever be the wiser (if I only hadn't just published what I published)
So yea, all's well. We threw a surprise party for Hollomon, which turned out to be a big hit, since he was surprised. ;-) I helped them get their surround-system installed in one of those work-for-food gigs I mentioned earlier, and it sounds and looks great. No wires, baby!!
I guess that's it for now- I'm looking forward to working on the vineyard with the Mackey's this weekend, planting 1,900 grow tubes and bamboo stakes. It'll be a lot of work.
I'm sure they'll feed me though. ;-)
