On Tuesday, I made some phone calls that I'd been meaning to make, and hung out in the apartment for a bit. Scott was at work doing some final paperwork, so Julie and I hung out. She went with me to run some errands that morning, and we got a lot done.
When Scott came back from work, the three of us headed out to Vail. The weather couldn't have been better out there, and I got some spectacular shots of the area at some scenic overlooks. Everything is so clean, so pure... it is really something to witness. You can't capture the essence of a location in a photo, at least when the essence involves a full sky of mountains surrounding you. We got into Vail Village and walked around, going to various shops. It was gorgeous there, and while most of the things were overpriced, I still had fun shopping around for more Southwestern stuff for the bedroom.
After Vail, we started back home and then decided to go see Aspen too. Aspen was Southwest of our location, so we took a special way to get there, cutting through a city called Leadville, through the Continental Divide. The area up in the clouds, known as the Continental Divide, had some of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. We took a lot of photos and got back into the car. I was so dizzy. We were more than 12,000 feet up in elevation, and it was apparent when I walked up the slight hill and had to stop to catch my breath. What an interesting phenomenon.
Once we took the view in, we all started to get really cold, so we got back in the car and continued on to Aspen. When we finally arrived, the sun was setting over the ski town. We drove around, not seeing anything in particular that we were interested in stopping for. Granted, we didn't give it much of an opportunity to impress us, but after seeing Vail, we unanimously decided that Aspen sucks. Pretty area though. I'm sure it's nicer with snow on the ground and cute young ladies walking around in ski boots.
The ride home to Aurora was dark. As we left Aspen, someone made a comment about Outback, and all of our mouths started watering. It would be several hours before we'd find one, but damned if we didn't get to one that night to appease the craving. We slipped in there with 5 minutes to spare. I'm sure that bugged the staff, but we were starving. The food was delicious. We didn't get home until pretty late that night (about 2:30am)
