I woke up in my suite and went to check out downstairs. The person at the desk in the morning didn't understand how I stayed in a suite for $65 until I told her that I checked in at 12:30 the night prior. I guess the room didn't get booked, so the dude behind the desk that night did me a favor. It really was a nice room.
I was on the road in a matter of minutes. I had a full tank and enough food to snack on. It was 10:30am and I started my day on the dusty trail. I passed the city of Topeka and stopped for lunch at Sonic somewhere near Abeline, Kansas. It's some beautiful country out there. I passed entire fields of sunflowers, which is really something to witness. (I think on my way home, I'm going to try and get some photos of that- it was really impressive.)
I crossed the Colorado line before I even knew I was close. Apparently, I had driven way more than the lion's share of the trip on Sunday. By 5pm I was in Aurora and gave Scott a call. We came back to his apartment and decided on something to do for the night.
Scott drove me out to the Red Rocks, a venue cut into a stony hill in Colorado. It is gorgeous out in that area of the country. We climbed the stairs, which took quite a while, and finally reached the stage. Tuesday night, they would air Terminator III on the big screen, but there was nothing going on Monday. We walked to the top to get an even better view of the area, and then left for home when we'd seen enough. Very cool place! Mike Sos had mentioned it being a really great venue to see bands play. I can totally see why.
On the way home, we stopped into a Mexican restaurant for some dinner. If you're a South Park fan, you'll recognize the place - Casa Bonita. The one. The only. Apparently, Matt and Trey referred to a real restaurant in their show, where Eric Cartman plotted his way into going to Casa Bonita to eat Soapapillas, watch cliff divers, tour Black Bart's cave, get your photo taken behind bars, etc. Yes folks, it's a real place. It's a combination of Chuck E Cheese and the Mexican pavilion in EPCOT. They really did it up. The food wasn't all that great, but I got a kick out of the fact that this was a real place, and kept imagining Eric Cartman out there. It was hilarious.
After Casa Bonita, we drove through downtown Denver just to see the sights. I met Julie, Scott's girlfriend, and we hung out for a bit at Scott's apartment. I finally hit the sack late that night- it was a long day.
