Photos came in from Brightroom.com, the organization responsible for all the photos at the 10k race this past weekend. It seems like the race was two months ago. Things have been that crazy around here.

Sadly, this shirt didn't survive the wear and tear. Stupid me left it balled up after the race, with the 10k bib on it, safety-pinned to the shirt. And as we all know, a soaking wet shirt, balled up around little pieces of metal = little rust stains. I spent two days attacking it with pre-wash cleaners for rust, and Dad even gave it a shot, hitting it with Clorox and scrubbing at it with an old toothbrush. He kept it out inthe sun all day to bleach it too, (and got all the stains out) but when he washed it this morning, it formed a hole. So now I have two OS X shirts with holes in them. Nice. Really nice.

Had I known that we could bring anything to the run, I would have brought a junky sleeveless shirt. I thought we all had to run in the official 10k shirt, so the night before, I had to scour my bags looking for a shirt I could run in. I wasn't about to wear all black, and a polo shirt would have been stupid, so my only recourse was either wear the brand new never-been-washed 10k shirt (which would not have absorbed any sweat) or the os X shirt. And the osX shirt unfortunately lost. :(

Even with more work to do for the night, I forced myself to go home at 7 and not look back. I had committed to things, but so far, 7's been the earliest I've been out of here all week. And this week, I've been coming in at 8 instead of 10, so that makes for a hell of a long week.

Lots of promises being tossed around about me getting to take on bigger projects and less of the mundane shit. I laid it on the line yesterday though and made it clear that I haven't grown in 3 years, and another year of this will not happen. My new boss looked open-mouthed at the list of stuff I have on my plate. That's good though- even though we can't afford more headcount, at least she can see how overwhelming things are.

It's so friggin early. My eyes have bags around them. I have so much to organize right now. I can't wait for tonight when I leave here and go home and start cleaning up, filing stuff away, washing some clothes and getting my room in order. Things pretty much follow suit after the room gets clean.

I'm going to the Cherry Blossom festival tomorrow in D.C. to get some photos of the whole thing. Looks like Tiago's going to join me. I've never been to the event, yet I live so close to the thing. It's time to experience life. :) I'm hopeful that even in wartime, things will remain calm in the nation's capital and all will be well. I'm sure it'll be crowded, but that too will make for some great photos. (another great reason to have backup Memory Sticks!) Then when I'm home, I think we're going to hook up with Paul and do something for his 26th birthday dinner. Friggin' old man! hehe.

Hopefully with enough rest and relaxation this weekend, I will come at Monday like a steam engine and kick some butt.

'Cause right now I feel like the caboose.

Comments:

Did you try the lemon juice thing on the rust?

Posted by Olivia at April 4, 2003 01:20 PM

I told my Dad about it, but he was already bypassing that and going straight for the bleach. I imagine bleach is a bit stronger than lemon juice.

Haha I love your pick, Tiago! You must have been the only runner wearing long sleeves, khakis, and nice shoes to the race--impressive!
