Man, this site really needs to get worked on. You know you can't even jump from entry to entry once you're reading an older entry? Well, without the calendar that is. Eek. Amateur night. I hope you all can still read this and will bear with me while I figure out what I'm going to do. This might be my first weekend home in a long time, and I don't think I'll sleep in at all. There's too much to do. My daylight hours have been reduced (more on that later) and I haven't had the time to take care of things in the house.
So how was everyone's Tuesday? We're moving right along, aren't we? Pretty strange, exciting times over here at work. Things are falling through the sifters and there were rumors of Sam going to I.T. and me going to marketing. Yesterday I found out that the idea of me going to Marketing is a rumor no more.
I'm technically already over there.

Mike Rothman (VP of mktg) came by to introduce himself and talked a bit about what he wants from his employees. He said I'd be answering to BT (Barbara Thomas). He told me more about what he expects from people and then we parted ways.
I went straight over to BTs office to excitedly announce that I was here and ready for Marketing. Mike was already at BT's door, filling her in that he just broke the news to me. That was fine, since he invited me in and the three of us talked about expectations, goals, etc.
Apparently, they want me in the more higher-level stuff. Over a "celebration" dinner at Big Bowl with Tiago last night, I told him this and he was excited for me. "This means you'll get away from the data entry stuff, Brian" but it hadn't sunk in until dinner. He's right. By working on higher-level projects, I bypass the high-school level work I've been doing and actually could GROW as an employee here???? Kick ass.
So needless to say, I'm excited. The prospect of actually growing and feeling challenged is something too cool to brush aside for another year. I told BT that I'd been waiting to be in Marketing for 3 years and this was a big moment for me. She was expecting me to be not-so-thrilled with the move, so she was really happy to see that I was happy.
A few changes have to be made. For one thing, lunches are often quick. In Dev, we used to make an hour-long event out of lunch. It is not only a time to bond, but a time to get away from work, not talk shop and just chill out before coming back. Most mktg people eat either at their desks or not at all until projects are complete. I think the pace will be faster in mktg.
Also, Mktg people come in between 8 and 9, no later than 9, no earlier than 8. This is a bit different than the "whever you get here" approach that we had in Development. I got here today at 7:59 and might actually get to see what it's like to be home for a sunset. I can't wait.
This is essentially a new job for me. It feels like a promotion! I have new expectations, new coworkers, a new desk (facing the other end of Herndon), new emphasis on projects and perhaps some higher-level stuff too. Oh and new bosses.
I'm off to finish up work on the April magazine and then catch my first sunset on the way to Cracker Barrel tonight. My cousins from SC are meeting in Manassas tonight and I'm going to try like hell to make it. Why? Well, I'll break it down for ya: Family + Grilled Catfish + Cornbread - waiting - traffic = Good times.
Happy Wednesday to ya!
